NAME:

Jessica Rice

WHERE DO YOU WORK?

Royal Adelaide Hospital

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT ROLE?

Clinical nurse – Respiratory Outpatients 0.5FTE – Lung Cancer Support Role

Nurse Consultant- Rapid Respiratory Service 0.5FTE

WHAT LED YOU TO WORKING WITHIN THE AREA OF LUNG CANCER?

I saw the support gap for clients and their families who are being investigated for Lung Cancer as there was a lack of senior nursing within Respiratory outpatients.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

Building rapport and providing accurate information about the process of diagnosing Lung Cancer. Those that I am lucky to meet are from both country and metro areas of Adelaide

WHAT DO YOU FIND THE MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT YOUR ROLE?

Answering questions like “why would you want to work with people who have lung cancer?” It motivates me to dispel the stigma associated with a Lung Cancer Diagnosis and gently educating my colleagues along the way.

WHAT PIECE OF ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN WORKING IN THE FIELD OF LUNG CANCER?

With every client/patient interaction think of them as if it was your own family member being the patient and speak and act accordingly.

WHAT HOBBIES / ACTIVITIES DO YOU ENJOY OUTSIDE OF WORK?

Currently busy with 3 kids, camping and bike riding on flat ground!
